Pharmaron Exhibitor Showcase

Comparison of metabolism and rates/routes of excretion between human and toxicology species to establish metabolite safety

Speaker: Barry Jones, Ph.D. Senior Research Fellow, Pharmaron

Time: 13:15 - 13:45

Educational Needs Statement: This presentation focuses on the species differences sometimes seen in the excretion of drug and metabolites between rats and humans.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand role of metabolism in excretion of drugs and contextualise it with the Pfizer Clearance Classification System

  • Discuss the circulating metabolites in the context of the Smith and Dalive publication

  • Focus on excretion of glucuronide metabolites (AQX 1125 and viloxazine) and discuss the roles of transporters in the different species

Who Should Attend?

  • Scientists in ADME and DMPK

Abstract:

This presentation focuses on the species differences sometimes seen in the excretion of drug and metabolites between rats and humans.

  • Understand role of metabolism in excretion of drugs and contextualise it with the Pfizer Clearance Classification System

  • Use AQX 1125 as an example of a species difference in excretion between species

  • Use the PCCS to categorise the parent and discuss the routes of excretion in that context

  • Discuss the circulating metabolites in the context of the Smith and Dalive publication (Why do metabolites circulate?)

  • Focus on excretion of glucuronide metabolites (AQX 1125 and viloxazine) and discuss the roles of transporters in the different species
